The Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) hosted the International Workshop on Accelerator Driven Sub-critical System (ADS)

Dr. CHEN Hesheng, IHEP director, introduced the current scientific activities at IHEP, the developing plans for particle physics and ADS in China. Prof. Carlo RUBBIA, the Italian particle physicist and Nobel Prize winner, delivered a report on the sub-critical thorium reactor, in which he explained the thorium resource, thorium reactor techniques and the application of nuclear energy.
Dr. Hamid Aït Abderrahim, from the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre (SCK•CEN), introduced the MYRRHA project. Three experts from Aker Solutions reported about their activities on accelerator driven thorium reactor.
Dr. ZHAN Wenlong, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), made a report entitled “Roadmap of ADS Development in China”. His report covered the accelerator-related mega-facilities, development of nuclear energy, and future plans for ADS in China.Several domestic experts also delivered reports on the subject.
During the workshop, Prof. LU Yongxiang, CAS President, met with Prof. RUBBIA. Extended discussions over future collaboration on ADS were conducted.
